I’m Tired of Clickbait Headlines
I’m tired of the clickbait headlines telling me how to be a successful writer. 99% of the time, an article with a good headline fails to live up to its promise. Sometimes I feel like writers who publish online care more about the clicks than on actually conveying their unique perspective.
There’s only so many times I can click on articles promising to improve my writing or help me to earn more money only to find the same five suggestions. The truth is, just because a technique worked for you, does not mean it will work for me.
Instead of embracing our own voices as writers, it seems like we’re all racing to become the kind of writer that we think can beat an algorithm. While I admire the technology that allows us to see content related to our interests, I do think at some point the technology has caused online writing to become too homogenous.
Writing is in many ways, a subjective art. Unless you’re writing about a scientific study, the tips that many writers claim helped them earn $5,000 in a month or some other iteration of money in a period of time are usually just relying on a sample size of one, i.e. the person writing it.
