It’s day one of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). If you’re a writer, you’ve likely heard of this, but in case you haven’t, it’s a “501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides tools, structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds — on and off the page”. This is their mission statement from their website.

I’m currently at the New York Public Library in the Rose Reading Room. Check out how beautiful it is, below!

While I live in Cambridge, MA, I decided to come up to NYC to visit my sister and my brother for Halloween weekend. Of course, they both hold regular office jobs so have to work today. But this gives me plenty of time to work on the draft of my novel.

So far I have written 309 words. The goal of those participating in NaNoWriMo is to reach 50,000 words by the end of the month. With 30 days in November, I need to be writing an average of 1,667 words per day. I’ll have to write even more of course if I take any days off.
